New Diamondbacks Pitcher Jordan Montgomery Ready to Make a Splash in Arizona

Diamondbacks sign one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery

The Arizona Diamondbacks have bolstered their starting rotation by signing left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to a one-year contract worth up to $25 million. The deal also includes a vesting option for 2025. Montgomery, a seven-year veteran, spent the past season with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.

In his first 21 starts with the Cardinals, Montgomery posted a 6-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. After being traded to the Rangers in July, he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA over his final 11 starts. Montgomery played a crucial role in helping the Rangers win their first World Series title, going 3-1 in the postseason.

With a career 3.68 ERA and a 38-34 record over 141 appearances, Montgomery brings valuable experience to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff. He made his MLB debut in 2017 with the New York Yankees before being traded to the Cardinals in 2022.

The Diamondbacks now have a strong rotation that includes pitchers like Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson. The team will open its season against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday in Phoenix.
