Could Stephon Gilmore’s Return to the Panthers Bring a Valuable Veteran Presence to their Secondary?

Report: Panthers have made contact with Stephon Gilmore

As the Panthers continue to search for ways to strengthen their defense, reports are circulating that they have reached out to veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore about rejoining the team. Gilmore, who is 33 years old, played for Carolina during the latter part of the 2021 season after being traded by the Patriots for a sixth-round pick. In his time with the Panthers, he appeared in nine games with eight starts, recording 16 total tackles and two interceptions.

After his stint with the Panthers, Gilmore signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts and started in all 16 games in 2022. In 2023, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he also started in all 17 games, playing 94 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Throughout his career, Gilmore has played for several teams including the Bills, Patriots, Colts and Cowboys. In total, he has played in 165 games and has recorded 140 career passes defensed along with 31 interceptions.
